Woodlief: Reilly ready to write new chapter

Busy breaking in his former protege from Middlesex County, incoming Attorney General Martha Coakley and her team, before Reilly leaves office next Wednesday. Busy continuing his probe of negligence in that tragic ceiling collapse in the Big Dig. Busy wrapping up eight years in a job he loves. Reilly was reflective, relaxed, fervent and sometimes humorous in a recent one-hour interview. When he was asked if he's ready for a long vacation, he laughed and said, ''I haven't had a vacation in six years. This is a 24-7 job,'' recalling an incident in 2005 when he and his wife Ruth had driven off for a planned 10-day vacation in Chatham. ''The first day there I get this call about all these military base-closings.'' Back to Boston he went, to help devise the state's legal strategy against the closings.

Shelby family offers reward for dog that escaped groomer

SHELBY TOWNSHIP -- A woman whose Boston terrier escaped from a dog groomer while her family was on vacation is outraged that the company didn't do more to protect the animal, and is offering a reward for its safe return. But the owner of the business insists she did her best to find the dog, and feels she is unfairly being criticized by the family. Before going on vacation for the holidays last month, Joanne Gouleche of Shelby Township dropped off her dog, Gunner, at Shaggy Dog Groomers. Shaggy Dog had watched Gunner during previous vacations with no incident. But when Gouleche and her husband, Bill, returned with their family from vacation Jan. 2, they got bad news. "I called the groomer to see when I could pick up the dog, but the woman on the phone said, 'We have a problem: Gunner's gone.' "I asked them why they didn't try to contact me, since I left them several phone numbers to call in case of an emergency, but they had no answer.
