Some workers were even claiming that they worked more than 24 hours in one day. How does something like this happen without alarms going off? Civilian workers in one division, the audit said, beefed up pay by logging overtime on days they claimed as vacation, comp time or sick leave. In one case, a worker used 10 hours of vacation, then 15 hours of overtime a total of 25 hours in one day. Civilian workers at CHP include public safety dispatchers, truck inspectors, custodians and general office workers. It's amazing how things like this get through the system. Had this been a private company, red flags would've surfaced immediately and heads would've rolled.
