McCormicks row hits court

Workers at London's McCormicks plant will get a last chance to argue for severance and vacation pay in a Toronto court today. On Wednesday, the biscuit and candy plant was put into receivership at the request of Textron Financial, the plant's chief creditor. But the Ontario Superior Court of Justice turned down a request to fire the plant's 275 workers and deny them any severance and vacation pay. "This court decision is just the beginning, not the end of this. A union lawyer will argue the workers are owed $6 million to $7 million in severance and vacation pay.

"I'm actually excited about going back (to school)," Arroyo said. Arroyo, like most students, will be returning to school Jan. 8. Local mom Danita Brigantino, however, said she's going to have two college students at home for an extra week.

"I'd tell them we're on a 'mancation,' " Mr. Meadows said jokingly. "That kind of clicked with people." Without realizing it, Mr. Meadows and his friends – Bill, Paul and Chris, who have taken a yearly vacation together since 2002 – have been part of a trend in the travel industry toward getaways for guys. Mr. Meadows, who lives in Tampa, Fla., likes to think he and his friends coined the term (they registered the site www.mancation.com to share their vacation stories and help others plan their own mancations), which is now a buzzword in the travel business.
